Its main competitor is not so much the Samsung Galaxy S8, but the next iPhone X (read ten), which will hit the market in early November
The renewal cycle of Apple’s phones has been as regular as previous British trains. Year pair, the new model, let’s say iPhone 4; odd year, processor change, adjustments, refinement … a controlled but quite improved evolution: iPhone 4S. And so on.
This year is odd and we corresponded the evolved model of the iPhone 7, ie the iPhone 7S. But 2017 is a special year for the signature of the bitten apple because it is 10 years since Apple launched the first iPhone and dynamited the mobile phone industry. One reason enough to do something special: launch another different model added. And so, we have iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
It could have been perfectly iPhone 7S and iPhone X (read ten or ten in Castilian), but, Maybe calling it eight is a ploy to imply that the leap has been greater.
It is true that the technological leap, especially if we measure it in processor power, is important. What happens is that also has given the next iPhone X, which have already been unveiled features. And the latter, with its front covered almost entirely by a touch screen, is much more in line with the current trend. In fact, it is one of the differential points in the critics of the new terminals. In general, those of us who write in this sector expect that a high-end model (the new iPhone are) of a major brand (Apple, undoubtedly it is) should have a front of the whole screen type. And the 8 and 8 Plus do not. The screen ratio is the same on the iPhone 8 as on the 7.
In fact, there are hardly any changes externally. Until it is turned around and it is observed by the back part or if they are held simultaneously 7 and 8 in both hands. It seems a lie, but ten grams are noticeable. And that’s the difference in weight. It is a bit heavier and minimally bulky at 8 than 7. And it is something really curious because the norm is to make terminals always a little thinner. It has gained minimal thickness, but the camera still stands out.
Bionic A11 processor, spectacular
The reason for these changes is that they have opted for the glass in the back, which allows them to charge wirelessly. The promise (I have not yet tried it because I’m waiting to receive a charging base) is that it will take the same time to fill the battery as the conventional power supply. And here is also a criticism, because the iPhone 8 is compatible with fast charging, but does not include the corresponding feeder in the box.
The real changes, as has traditionally happened, are in the gut, in the leap from the A10 processor last year to the Bionic A11 this year. Spectacular. The most powerful in the market. It has nothing to do with competition. Play in another league … There is unanimity, even among the most critical of Apple.
The question that many users ask – and that some brands that use much less powerful processors auspicious – is if it serves something so fast. And the answer, although many do not like it, is that yes. Of course. No need if you are going to use the mobile for calls, instant messaging and take pictures occasionally. However, if you want to shoot quality 4K video or apply effects like the new dual camera rear portrait modes, it takes a lot of processing power.
Precisely the portrait modes are one of the points in which more focus are putting on Apple to differentiate this iPhone 8 from its predecessor. In the portrait mode that enables the dual rear camera you can now choose various lighting possibilities: Natural Light, Studio Light, Contrast Light, Stage Light and Mono Stage Light. This functionality is still in beta mode but has spectacular results.

Competition at home
The experience with the iPhone 8 is very good, it is very fast, it is an update and a very important improvement over the 7, so why say that it was very difficult? Because you have the competition at home. It is true that the iPhone X will be more expensive, but when someone is willing to pay 1,000 euros for a mobile, it is likely to be able to sacrifice a little more to have the last of the latter.
The case is that analysts are predicting a demand lower than expected of the iPhone 8 pending the arrival of the iPhone X and also point to a possible lower promotion by the operators.
From Apple, however, they continue to deliver the message that everything goes as planned. And is that the Californian company could have a tool that would ensure the automatic renewal of a good number of terminals. Two years ago, with the launch of 6S, they announced a very interesting financing plan, the iPhone upgrade program. You pay a fixed monthly fee that varies depending on the terminal and when a new one is released after one year is replaced. Or you pay a final fee to stay with the old one.
In Spain, the plan was replicated by Movistar and MediaMarkt, although with differences and has not reached a significant number of users. The problem is now whether this captive audience can choose between changing your lease and your iPhone from another season by 8 or wait for the X . I would sincerely wait. Although I have not tried it yet.
